Primary Purpose of Job: Serve as the primary system functional support for fuel accounting and bulk petroleum systems for the Petroleum Accounting departments. Coordinates and manages reporting information solutions. Responsible for direct peer and customer relations in defining reporting needs. Participate as an active team member for Petroleum Accounting department identifying solutions to functional system related issues. Lead, manage and ensure all closing functions to produce accurate monthly profit/loss statements. Perform special projects as requested by senior management.

 

Major functions:

  • Assist in the design, testing and implementation of new systems and system rewrites affecting the Petroleum Accounting department. This includes collaborating with Petroleum leadership, IT personnel and any other applicable departments to identify and implement solutions for the business requirements of Petroleum and associated impact to accounting work processes (25% of total job function)
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Right Angle Accounting module and E1 accounting systems. (25% of total job function)
    • Understand, articulate and implement best practices related to the above systems.
    • Train and support users of systems. Receive feedback from users and implement enhancements to make systems more effective and efficient.
    • Lead all testing requirements as needed for all systems
    • Make recommendations to senior management to improve processes and accuracy of systems.
    • Monitor and evaluate future needs of systems based on upcoming new business requirements of Petroleum and/or changing accounting rules and regulations
  • Lead and manage the monthly Petroleum Accounting closing processes. (15% of total job function)
    • Ensure processes are in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) standards and performed in a timely manner according to QuikTrip’s closing calendar.
    • Assist with problem resolution and preparation of final closing entries and monthly reporting to financial reporting and petroleum departments.
    • Review accuracy of statements prepared for publication
    • Act as liaison between Petroleum Department and Accounting in regard to questions, reports and/or analysis as requested.
  • Perform special projects as requested by senior management. (10% of total job function)
    • Responsible for research, information gathering, and accounting guidance for any new applicable accounting standards. Ensure compliance with company policy and preparation of financials in accordance with GAAP requirements.
    • Provides guidance to management on a wide variety of accounting and financial reporting concepts, practices, and procedures.
    • Provide reporting as requested by Petroleum leadership.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of training manuals and guidelines for new or existing accounting systems. (5% of total job function)
  • Review weekly and monthly closing results for Petroleum accounting group. Provide analysis on results as requested by senior management. (5% of total job function)
  • Act as a team member of Petroleum Accounting groups through cross-training, back-up and support of these functions and activities. (5% of total job function)
  • Oversee and review all LIFO calculations for Petroleum Accounting groups. (5% of total job function)
  • Serve as point of contact for internal and external audits. Provide documentation, coordinate responses and provide interview responses when requested. (5% of total job function)

Reports to: Petroleum Accounting Closing & Inventory Manager

 

Relationships:

Inside the Company: Petroleum, Petroleum Accounting and Risk, Corporate Accounting, Finance, Corporate Tax and IT groups

Outside the Company: Vendors, Counterparties, Exchange Partners, Pipelines and Terminal personnel

 

Position Specifications:

Required education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Desired education: CPA or equivalent professional certification

Required experience: 5-7 years’ experience in accounting or finance

position with emphasis on G/L account reconciliation

Desired experience: 8+ years’ experience in a petroleum or motor fuel environment including working knowledge of trading operations and derivatives, general ledger account analysis and inventory reconciliation experience.

Required skills: Analytical thinking and independent problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills and advanced spreadsheet skills.

Desired skills: Experience in Access or database related software.

 

Additional criteria:

This position requires very strong communication, interpersonal, and analytic skills. The individual is required to not only perform daily processes but also be able to review the results of those processes and identify unusual items. This position requires the individual to be a fast learner capable of developing an understanding of the petroleum supply chain and how the petroleum markets transact business. This position requires an individual comfortable and able to focus working in an open environment with multiple distractions and personal interaction.

 

Starting Salary: $96,700-$120,900
