Job Title: Manufacturing and Distribution Cost Accountant

Primary Purpose of Job:
Responsible for performing a wide variety of Cost Accounting functions including, but not limited to, leading monthly Manufacturing & Distribution financial accounting closing functions for Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., utilizing the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne (E1) Manufacturing and Distribution, Inventory Management and General Ledger accounting systems. Coordination and preparation of Net Landed Cost Studies, collaborating with Corporate Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., Executive Management and creating/analyzing sales, cost of goods sold, and gross margin reporting. Coordinate and prioritize all facets of the Manufacturing & Distribution Department in order to achieve the completion of all tasks in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner.
Major functions for this position:
Provide support and direction in a lead capacity to the Manufacturing and Distribution Accounting department employees by answering questions, actively participating in problem solving activities, and making non-personnel decisions in the absence of the Manufacturing and Distribution Accounting Manager. Communicate issues, concerns, and/or accomplishments to the Manufacturing and Distribution Accounting Manager related to the Manufacturing and Distribution Accounting Department employees’ performance.
Plan, coordinate, and prepare Net Landed Cost (NLC) studies for the Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., manufacturing, distribution, and transportation business segments.
- Plan and organize the scope, requirements, objectives, and results of the various NLC studies with the Corporate Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., Executive Management team.
- Coordinate with various business segments including Corporate Payroll, Operational Facility Managers, Team Leaders, Systems personnel, and Corporate Accounting departmental personnel in order to gather the needed NLC study information and data.
- Create and maintain reporting utilizing Cognos software, to aide in the gathering of data.
- Perform an analysis of the NLC study results for accuracy, completeness, and reasonableness with respect to the business assumptions, calculations, and allocation methods used.
- Publish and review the NLC study to the QuikTrip and Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., Executive Management team.
Coordinate, oversee, and perform Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc. financial closing functions, ensuring the functions and tasks are completed in an accurate, timely, and complete manner, meeting all established deadlines. Closing functions include, but not limited to:
- Create, maintain, and process general ledger allocations.
- Batch review, updates, and approval for records created by Corporate and Warehouse personnel.
Produce weekly and monthly product cost reports that include an analysis of sales, cost, margin, and production variances.
Perform clean, accurate, and timely general ledger reconciliations of accounts relating to the manufacturing and distribution processes.
Calculate and record Quik’N Tasty Foods, Inc., quarterly LIFO Inventory Valuation estimate based on an established process utilizing inventory balances. Assist in the calculation and preparation of fiscal year-end LIFO to record the net impact of the actual LIFO (expense)/income to the accrued dollars.
Responsible for the accurate and timely creation and maintenance of all departmental function procedures.
Perform testing functions related to new software applications, hardware, system processing functionality, and file structure modifications.
Special projects and/or assignments as directed by the Manufacturing and Distribution Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller-Product and Store Accounting, and/or Corporate Controller.

Position Specifications

Required education: Must have successfully completed Intermediate Accounting II AND Cost Accounting II.
Desired education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
Required Experience: Four years’ experience within a corporate accounting/office environment.
Desired experience: Six years’ financial accounting and reporting experience, cost accounting experience in a manufacturing and/or warehousing environment, and retail inventory method of accounting.
Required Skills: Excellent customer service, communication, organizational, and time management skills. Strong analytical and number perception skills. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products with Intermediate skill level in the use of Microsoft Excel. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously. Detail oriented. Follow-up skills.
Starting Salary Range: $80,000 – $100,000
