Job Title: General Liability Adjuster II

Primary Purpose of Job: Adjust general liability, products liability and auto liability claims, including both bodily injury and property damage claims, in multiple states in which the Company operates.
Major Functions:
Adjust General Liability claims, including both bodily injury and property damage 45%
- Interact with both internal and external customers in the course of investigation
- Investigate and determine liability on all claims within the standards of the QuikTrip Claims Handling Manual by securing appropriate documentation, obtaining recorded or written statements, reviewing photographs, interviewing QT employees and any witnesses to determine QT’s potential liability. Document the investigation in the claims handling system and maintain proper coding.
- Set initial reserve based on information available and make appropriate reserve changes as warranted and as facts are developed. Document reserve changes in the claims handling system.
- Assess percentage of liability, if any, based on facts of each incident and applicable law. If investigation determines potential liability on the part of QuikTrip, secure demand packet and establish potential damages by securing information and documentation related to medical treatment and expenses, lost wages, and any other special damages presented by the claimant. Negotiate settlements within authority to achieve amicable resolution of the claim.
- During course of investigation, identify any third parties with potential responsibility or liability for possible tender of claim.
- Mitigate claims cost, including outside legal fees and other claims-related expenses.
- Assist in training of new Department personnel
Manage Litigated Files for General Liability and Auto Liability 35%
- Manage and coordinate with defense counsel, including assistance with risk analysis and defense strategy/planning, while obtaining any information required for defense of lawsuit.
- Assist in preparation of responses to interrogatories and discovery requests for defense counsel
- Determine or obtain settlement authority or position for the resolution of the lawsuit.
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences and jury trials as warranted.
- Assist counsel with trial as required
- Attend bi-monthly litigation meetings
Adjust auto liability claims for vehicles owned by QuikTrip. 10%
- Investigate claims which includes taking recorded statements, interviewing QT employees, and any witnesses to determine QT’s liability and documenting the investigation in the claims handling system. Gather documentation regarding the accident including appraisal if necessary.
- Determine liability and assess amount of liability taking into consideration police report, statements of parties involved and damages resulting from the accident and any other outside factors.
- Analyze if QT vehicle or Third-Party Vehicle is considered a Total Loss. If confirmed, quantify Total Loss by obtaining Book Value or ACV (Actual Cash Value).
- Coordinate the repairs of the QT vehicle, if needed.
- Set initial reserve based on information available and make appropriate reserve changes as warranted and as facts are developed. Document reserve changes in the claims handling system.
- Determine amount of settlement offer and negotiate settlement/resolution of the claim with the other vehicles involved for both property damage and bodily injury.
- Analyze subrogation potential on losses and pursue collection on damages deemed recoverable, e.g., potential claims against third parties related to auto accidents.
- Satisfy subrogation requests for damage caused to vehicles rented in the course and scope of business on behalf of QuikTrip Corporation.
Adjust product liability claims in coordination with the Sales Department and Food Safety Managers 3%
- Determine if the product claim should be handled by QuikTrip claims department or tendered to the vendor of the product.
- Notify and confirm tender of the product claim with the vendor
Adjust fuel-related claims referred from division offices. 3%
- Obtain statements from the customer, the mechanic, and any other pertinent parties to the claim. Gather internal documentation as it relates to the claim.
- Review claim history for particular location of fuel purchase to address any patterns that may be present, i.e., other allegations of bad fuel from same location
- If determined a consultant is needed, assign claim to consultant for handling and review report upon receipt
- Review all information gathered to determine any liability on the part of QuikTrip and evaluate and negotiate settlement if warranted
- enalyze any subrogation potential on any losses, e.g., potential claims against third parties related to fuel distribution or delivery.
Serve as back-up to all areas of General Liability Claims 4%
- Identify potential risks and exposure for QuikTrip and coordinate with General Liability Manager to provide feedback for Store Operations Department to reduce areas of identified risk at Safety Committee Meetings.
- Draft, Edit, and Update Claims Resource Database in OneNote, Training Documents, and Departmental Form

Outside the Company: Customers, attorneys, doctors, outside adjusters, and insurance companies.
Position Specifications:
Required education: High school graduate or equivalent, as well as current residential Property and Casualty Adjusters license.
Desired education: Associates degree in insurance-related studies and/or legal assistant degree; multi- line adjuster’s license.
Required experience: Minimum of three years hands-on experience adjusting multi-state claims.
Desired experience: Five years hands-on experience with multi-state general liability, product liability, bodily injury and auto claims.
Required skills: Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, strong organizational and oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in fast-paced environment and multi-task.
Desired skills: Working knowledge of Origami (or QuikTrip Licensed Claim System)
